Scott Mescudi has had quite a year, but has seemingly turned it around right before the end of 2016. Besides his involvement in a few feuds (each with Drake, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco), Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, had also checked himself into rehab this past October following having suicidal thoughts and battling depression. Proving his transformation and mental progression, the Cleveland native released his sixth studio album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’.

Returning to the sound that led to his fame on previous albums, such as A Kid Named Cudi and Man On The Moon, Cudi sought expertise from Mike Will Made It, Plain Pat, Mike Dean, Dot Da Genius and Pharrell to remind fans why we first fell in love with him and his sound. Pharrell not only contributed behind the scenes, but is also featured on the album, along with André 3000 Benjamin, Willow Smith and Travis Scott.

Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ is a 19 track project split into four acts which shows the progression of Cudi’s mental and music evolution. Totaling one hour and thirty minutes worth of dreamy and psychedelic sounds, the album takes fans on an emotional roller coaster; covering his mental illness and recovery plus his ‘I’m here, get over it’ track, “Does It”.

Kid Cudi definitely shows us he’s back and not leaving any time soon. Some records to look out for: “Baptized In Fire” (ft. Travis Scott), “Rose Gold” (ft. Willow Smith), “By Design” (ft. André 3000), “Surfin'” (prod. Pharrell), and “Releaser” (prod. Mike Dean/Plain Pat).

Check out the videos for “Frequency” and “Surfin'”, the two singles from the album. Then, stream the album and let us know which tracks your feeling or not so much.
