At her first ever headlining show, Bronx singer and songwriter, Tish Hyman, blessed the stage at West Hollywood’s The Peppermint Club last night (April 7) to debut her latest track, “What It Feels Like,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Dej Loaf, and preview her upcoming mixtape, ‘The Way I Am.’
In reference to her new track “Catching A Vibe” – featured on her forthcoming sophomore EP – it definitely wasn’t hard to do so in the super quaint, dim-lit and speakeasy-like setting. Hyman assured that everyone could effortlessly catch one at what she promised to be a killer show.
In a Billboard interview prior to, she stated:
“I’m very particular about the sound of my music. So I’ll be sitting there like a general making sure every note is perfect. It’s my first big show in L.A. where I’ll be performing songs from the EP, so I want to give 150 percent.”
And that she did, in playing her popular singles, “Subway Art,” “All That I Can Do,” “Four Letter Word,” and new joints, “Something To Say,” “Billion,” and “Don’t.”
Of her forthcoming EP, Hyman says:
“It’s basically the next chapter in my life. Dedicated To (her previous mixtape) reflected the beginning of my life and how my career came to be. The Way I Am is me now, loving my life and what I do.”
The acclaimed songstress, who’s been compared to the likes of Lauryn Hill, definitely knows how to switch up her style and be versatile. In her varying tracks performed, she rapped with a flow like Busta Rhymes, sang soulfully like Erykah Badu, and rocked out like Aerosmith.
Upon exiting stage left, listeners chanted for an encore, which she partook in and ended with an off-the-dome serenading goodbye. The upcoming project, “The Way I Am,” is slated for release in two weeks, says Hyman. But until then…
